Voodoo Beach Rockin Concert Series


Voodoo Beach’s rockin’ summer concert series presents Toad to the Wet Sprocket, an alternative rockband best known for their hits “All I Want” and “Walk on the Ocean.” The poolside show takes place one Thursday per month through September. Free and open to the public, based on capacity, guests must be 18 and older with valid ID.

First formed in 1986 their mellow, melodic folk-pop sound made them one of the most successful alternative rock bands of the early 1990s. Though officially broken up since 1998, the foursome has worked together off and on over the years. In May of 2009 they played a four show mini-tour. Positive crowd response brought them together for a second 12-stop mini tour this summer.

Voodo Beach at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino is located at 3700 W. Flamingo Rd. Event starts Thursday, July 30. Doors open at 7:30pm. Upcoming appearances, August 27 with Nine Days and Marcy Playground and September 24 with the Presidents of the USA and The Ataris.

FREMONT STREET EXPERIENCE HOSTS BOOK SIGNING WITH CRICALLY ACCLAIMED

Fremont Street Experience will host renowned author of 1969: The Year Everything Changed, Rob Kirkpatrick, for a meet and greet and book signing on Friday, July 24.

In 2009, Rob Kirkpatrick published the book, 1969: The Year Everything Changed. Divided into four parts that correspond with the four seasons of the year, the book chronicles the history of 1969 in American society and culture. Kirkpatrick delves into such important events as the Richard Nixon's inauguration, the birth of punk music and the first Led Zeppelin tour, Easy Rider, the riots at People’s Park, Stonewall and the Days of Rage, the Apollo 11 moon landing, the Woodstock Festival, to name a few.

The book signing will be held at John Van Hamersveld’s Hippie Nation Gallery & Records on Friday, July 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Copies of Kirkpatrick’s 1969: The Year Everything Changed, can be purchased at the event for $24.95. All are welcome to attend this special meet and greet opportunity with the author and purchase a copy of his book to be autographed.

Canadian rock band April Wine stepped into the spotlight forty years ago when they released their first single from their self-titled album. The band soon experienced mainstream success and released more than 20 albums with a plethora of hits including “Just Between You and Me,” “You Could Have Been a Lady,” and “Sign of the Gypsy Queen.” In 2009 April Wine was inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and also received The Lifetime Achievement Award for their contribution to Canadian music history. Multi-instrumentalist, Edgar Winter is a vocalist, keyboardist, saxophonist and percussionist, well versed in blues, rock and jazz-style music. In 1972 he formed the legendary Edgar Winter Group where he experienced tremendous success with the album They Only Come Out at Night, which stayed on the Billboard charts for 80 weeks and reached double-platinum status in 1986. The group recorded such hits as the number one hit instrumental “Frankenstein,” “Free Ride” and “Easy Street.” Performing for nearly 40 years, Winter has more than 20 albums under his belt.

Fremont Street Experience Hosts NASA Astronaut Scott J. Kelly in Celebration of
“One Giant Leap: 40th Anniversary of Moon Landing”


Fremont Street Experience will host a special educational forum with NASA Astronaut
Scott J. Kelly for students of the Clark County School District on Monday, July 20 and Tuesday, July 21 at the 1st Street Stage area. Kelly will conduct three, one-hour sessions each day at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., discussing his two Space Shuttle missions and including a Q&A portion at the end. The forum will also include items such as a NASA spacesuit and Apollo 11 replica. The public is also welcome to attend.

Santa Fe Station Brings Popular Casual Restaurant Brands Coco ’s Bakery Restaurant and Johnny Rockets to Its Guests

Coco’s Bakery Restaurant, the popular 24-hour family dining restaurant and Johnny Rockets, the all-American classic hamburger place, will be serving up their menus to the guests of Santa Fe Station, 4949 N. Rancho Road in Las Vegas .

For more than 55 years, Coco ’s Bakery and Restaurant has been serving up hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner specialties, but is probably best known for its bakery that feature fresh baked pies, cakes, cookies, muffins and breads baked fresh daily at each location. Coco ’s Bakery Restaurant will open inside Santa Fe Station on Monday, July 20 in the afternoon and will be located near the Feast Buffet.

Coco’s Bakery Restaurant menu is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and features breakfast special such as the signature Mega Breakfast, the Angus Chicken-Fried Steak & Eggs and seasonal offerings, such as this summer’s strawberry-themed breakfast specials. Lunch and dinner offerings are vast and include an array of soup and salads, Angus burgers and steaks, fish and seafood, pasta, sandwiches and a “Fit and Lively” menu featuring a variety of menu items under 500 calories for those interested in watching their carbohydrate, calorie or fat intake.
